CYBILL SHEPHERD

By: Abby Wood

First and foremost, what I loved about this article was the description of the scene the writer had used when Cybill was basking in the sun. The scenes of what she was doing when she was at her apartment, the way he was writing her career path as if she were narrating it while we are reading was very powerful. I loved his way of describing it because it made me feel like I was the person behind the camera as I'm hearing and watching what she says in this conducted interview. Also, the way of describing her physical persona in the fourth paragraph at the beginning was very well written. I felt like I got a really good sense of who she is and her personality. We know how she is as a movie star/model and all the other hyphens to go with that, a.k.a. her projection, and we also at the end get a small glimpse of who she is on the inside.

Their are however a couple things I would improve on for this article, and that those are: One, to describe her relationships with Bogdanovich and David Ford, because I did not know how they contributed to the person that she is. How did they help her at getting to wear she is, or did they at all? Second, her relationship with her daughter Clementine wasn't really prevalent when I thought it could have been a major opportunity to show us a side of Cybill that we don't see in the beginning. How is she as a mother? Third, the organization of how her career was explained could have been more transcendental instead of jumping from movie to movie that she did.

But all criticisms set aside, the thing I loved most was the kicker at the very end. The scene where the sun is setting and she can see it from her place in Memphis, and her quote, "I regret every sunset I miss here," gives me a flash of the internal Cybill, and one that is connected with her beauty. She is beautiful as a movie star, and as a person.
