So, when I was looking at CNN.com, a feature about bear encounters in Alaska quickly caught my attention.
The piece talks about a "bear camp" in Kenai Penisula fishing lodge Great Alaska International Adventure Vacations, where families come to relax, fish and see the bears. It goes on to talk about the people that work there, the 28 year-old guide Matt and all his "beary" friends. They take guests to the top of a 15 foot platform so they can see the bears and how they interact.
No one seems to be scared, they just talk a lot about how the bears are beautiful and how amazing it is to watch them interact in the wild. They even have names for certain bears and have figured out pieces of each of their personalities.
I found it funny that the author made it a point to mention that there was no internet or tv for the kids!
I think it would be a fun adventure, but I'm not sure I could handle being that close to a wild animal!
Lizzie, it looks like you enjoyed this feature. Would be interested to know the specifics of the feature that made you enjoy it this much. Was it the writing style? The description? The quotes?
