Classwork

“I’m really excited”

The sun peeked through my blinds after days of cold and cloudy weather. The warm weather didn’t faze me because it was the best day of the week. It was Sunday.

I woke up promptly at 11:00 AM after a late night with friends in Greensboro. But, who needs sleep when there’s football to watch?

Still lying in bed, I reached over to my night stand and felt around for my TV remote. I found my glasses, my cup of water, and my alarm clock.

Alas, my remote. I pressed the big red Power button and turned the channel to ESPN.

“The Miami Dolphins play the New England Patriots today at 1:30,” said the announcer.

From that moment on, the only time I got up was to get food, and of course that was only during commercials.

“I don’t trust you”

Thanksgiving Break could not come any sooner. I leave in a few weeks to drive back with my friend, Blake. We both live in Maryland and I thought I would keep him company on the 6-hour ride up North.

At first I was going to just stay on campus but I thought ‘Why not?’ It’s Thanksgiving and I miss my family, especially my little brother, Conor.

“I want to surprise him,” I told my dad over the telephone.

“Great idea!” he answered, “I’ll be careful not to say anything.”

I called a few days later and Conor answered the phone.

“Dad said you’re staying at school for break,” he said, sadness in his voice.

“Yeah buddy, it just costs too much to get a flight home,” I said, acting the part.

“I don’t trust you,” he said.

Smart kid.
