Yesterday's Blog

By Cathy Caudill

Last weekend was pretty productive toward my final project. I have my two main interviews in regard to the honors dorm completed--that is, I've interviewed Dr. DeSantis and a student living on the floor. As I spoke with the student, I also got to ask several of her neighbors questions since the students are constantly moving through each other's suites.

I plan on interviewing Dr. Schneid soon after the break. I had also planned on interviewing the head of the Odyssey Club, but since I learned that the club is not as involved with the dorm as I thought, I'm probably going to interview someone more relevant, like the RA living on the floor.

After that, all that's left is the writing itself and gathering some multimedia.

As for my other story, I'm working on a travel piece. I've been writing about the High Point City Lake over the course of two weeks, and I'm putting on the finishing touches today. Looking at the story requirements, I hope it's acceptable that I don't have any real interviews (aside from conversations with a friend, who had been visiting the lake since she was a kid), since I was aiming to make this less of an "obscure tourism" piece and more of a "nature" piece--that is, it's not about what people go there to do, it's about this pocket of splendor that exists on the outskirts of our oft-dingy city.

I did, however, compile research in regard to the area's history--I was particularly interested that the land was previously a quaker plantation. One of their meeting houses is still on the plantation, with one of their trade businesses across the street.
